In what seems like an attempt to compromise and get a deal done to save the season, the NHL and its owners have offered the players a 50/50 split of the league’s revenue. The league hopes that the players union accepts the deal and the NHL has a schedule in place that would start the regular season on November 2nd. This would be a full 82 game campaign and if agreed upon, would mean that the lockout only lasted less than a month into the actual regular season. The players might not agree on the deal outright and negotiations may continue, but this is a big step in the right direction. The owners were the ones who stepped up and made what seems like a fair offer. All along the players said all they wanted was an honest offer and that they were trying to get a fair deal done as soon as possible to save the season. Well, the owners made the first big move, now the ball is in the players’ court, or more appropriately the puck is in their zone.
